Keeping your staff motivated is not always easy. However, it is an essential part of your company’s overall success. As an administrator, it is vital to make sure that your staff is motivated to provide the best possible service to your customers. If you are looking for ways to increase motivation or looking for some tips to share with others, here are some easy ways to motivate your staff:

Make Yourself Readily Available

One of your main roles as an administrator is to do your best to make your staff’s lives easier so that they can provide the best possible care and education to the children. Consider checking in monthly, biweekly, or weekly with your staff to ask them their concerns and suggestions and offer help where needed. Keeping open communication with your staff creates a better company culture, but also be sure not to micromanage.

Recognize Your Staff’s Accomplishments

Surprisingly, money is not as big of an incentive to people as feeling valued is. Making your staff feel valued and appreciated by recognizing them when they are doing a good job will motivate them to work harder and improve their skills. You can achieve this by privately thanking your staff members or having a monthly staff lunch where you recognize and thank members of your staff for outstanding work.

Encourage Your Staff to Seek Out Professional Development

Offer your staff opportunities to attend conferences, workshops, or seminars on topics that you believe are relevant to their job or the industry and could provide them with some additional techniques and knowledge in their tool belt. Continuous learning is one of the best ways to motivate staff to work hard and continue to improve.

Encourage Teamwork

Having your staff learn to work together as a team and collaborate, rather than compete with one another can greatly improve your company culture and motivate your staff. Teach them to utilize each other’s strengths and work together to achieve a common goal. This could be accomplished by having routine meetings where staff members can work together to come up with new ideas and ways to improve what they already do.

Manage Conflict Effectively

Turning a blind eye to conflict can lead to a negative atmosphere and have implications for staff productivity and a lack of communication within the team. Conflict should not be ignored but communicated through professionally. The trick is to make sure that your staff feels comfortable discussing any conflict with you, but that there is not an environment created where it is encouraged to throw each other under the bus.

Set a Good Example

Your staff will look to you for guidance and inspiration, so you must set a good example to gain their respect. Also, your staff needs to know when you need help or when things are not going the way you wanted to. This will allow your staff to get to know you better and it makes you seem more approachable.

Motivating your staff is important, and it is not as difficult as you may think. Take the time to experiment with some of these tips and find out what works best for your company!
