Winter Activities in Your Classroom

Posted by airchildcare on Dec 1st 2021

We have some fun and educational winter activities for your classroom from ice painting to iceberg hop.

Check them out!

1. Ice Painting!

The supplies you will need for this activity are:

  • Shallow plastic bin
  • Paintbrushes
  • Watercolors
  • Ice
  • Jar of water

The preparation for this activity is very quick and easy. Put the ice in the plastic bin. To keep the ice from moving, you can put the cup of water in the middle of the ice in the bin. You can use an inexpensive watercolor set for this activity and thicker paintbrushes tend to work better. That’s it! Let the kids come up a few at a time and paint away.

2. Fake Snow Writing Tray

The supplies you will need for this activity are:

  • Shaving Cream
  • Cornstarch
  • Writing Trays
  • Dark colored paper

Mix 2 parts of the shaving cream, to 1 part cornstarch. Mix together well until the cornstarch clumps but remains crumbly. You can add more of either ingredient if the mixture is too wet, or too dry. You can even add some fun winter themed confetti to make this more fun! If they do not want to use their fingers to write, you can provide paintbrushes for them if you would like. It would also be helpful to have visuals for the kids to look at, to help them practice writing their letters or numbers.

3. Indoor Ice-Skating Rink

The supplies you will need for this activity are:

  • Clear plastic
  • Tape
  • Snowflake Cutouts (optional)

Lay the clear plastic out on the floor in an open area and use your tape to tape it down. If you would like to add the snowflake cutouts, add them underneath the plastic before you tape it down. Let the kids take off their shoes and ‘’ice-skate’’ with their socks in the rink.

4. Iceberg Hop

The supplies you will need for this activity are:

  • White cardstock paper
  • Scissors

Cut out ‘’icebergs’’ using the cardstock and place them onto the floor in a random order. Let the kids come over to the area and play. They can hop using one or two feet, they can even walk, run, or ‘skate’.
