What childcare training resources exist in Maryland?

The Maryland Department of Education Division of Early Childhood oversees all services, programs, and facilities pertaining to early childhood and out of school learning. Maryland Department of Education Division of Early Childhood is also the home to all of Maryland childcare professional development and training needs. While there are many great tools available to childcare professionals from the Maryland Department of Education Division of Early Childhood, here’s two that we’ve found to be very useful.

The Office of Child Care’s Licensing Branch is a centralized resource for all things licensing. According to the Office of Child Care’s Licensing Branch, the mission of the Licensing Branch is to:

-        License and re-license childcare facilities
-        Monitor programs to make sure all childcare regulations are followed
-        Investigate complaints of reported violations of the regulations or illegal childcare
-        Take enforcement action against programs that have serious violations of regulations
-        Help childcare programs meet all standards and regulations set federally and by the Maryland Department
of Education Division of Early Childhood

The Maryland Family Network - is a tool for early childhood educators to use to advance their knowledge and the programs and services that their childcare facility offers. All trainings offered on the Maryland Family Network are approved by the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). AIR Childcare Training Solutions (CKO-157326) is approved by MSDE to offer online training in Maryland.

How many hours of annual in-service training are required in Maryland?

According to the Maryland Office of Child Care Credentialing Branch, staff members must complete a minimum of twelve (12) hours of in-service training annually to maintain a level two standing.
